PON – Passive Optical Networking

Blog Contribution
Passive Optical Networking (PON) is the best kept secret of optical networking. Often used by telecommunications companies to provide the Last Mile, its application still seems to be lagging in other areas. 2024Sight has been working with PON since the very early days. With the right head-end and premise equipment PON allows for very efficient, long distance, LAN-style networking with minimal cable cost. To learn more about what PON can do for you, please read our PON-related papers and posts. Here you can find a presentation introducing GPON.

Telecommunication – Open Access Infrastructure

Case Studies
The development of the open access telecommunications infrastructure for the land development Bahrain Bay in 2011 has been a first in the region and a model for the surrounding countries. Built on 450,000 sqm reclaimed land Bahrain Bay is positioned off the north-eastern shore of Manama, the Capital of Bahrain. 2024Sight was responsible for the Bahrain Bay Development's ICT Master Plan. In particular, we developed a business model and a RFP (Request For Proposal) for an open access infrastructure, allowing any service provider to deliver telecommunications, internet and television services to any occupier in Bahrain Bay over a common GEPON-based Last Mile cable plant.
