PON – Passive Optical Networking

Blog Contribution
Passive Optical Networking (PON) is the best kept secret of optical networking. Often used by telecommunications companies to provide the Last Mile, its application still seems to be lagging in other areas. 2024Sight has been working with PON since the very early days. With the right head-end and premise equipment PON allows for very efficient, long distance, LAN-style networking with minimal cable cost. To learn more about what PON can do for you, please read our PON-related papers and posts. Here you can find a presentation introducing GPON.

Telecommunication – Open Access Infrastructure

Case Studies
The development of the open access telecommunications infrastructure for the land development Bahrain Bay in 2011 has been a first in the region and a model for the surrounding countries. Built on 450,000 sqm reclaimed land Bahrain Bay is positioned off the north-eastern shore of Manama, the Capital of Bahrain. 2024Sight was responsible for the Bahrain Bay Development's ICT Master Plan. In particular, we developed a business model and a RFP (Request For Proposal) for an open access infrastructure, allowing any service provider to deliver telecommunications, internet and television services to any occupier in Bahrain Bay over a common GEPON-based Last Mile cable plant. Arcapita Building

Case Studies
Real Estate ICT case studies illustrate the possibilities and opportunities in fully converged buildings. In 2015 the Arcapita Bank Building in Bahrain is still one of the most converged building in the world. Occupied in December 2010, the building features an office block on the shores of the Gulf island state, which seems to glide on two waves. 2024Sight designed and supervised the implementation of the IT network and ensured uniform adoption of the network by the building sub-system vendors, as well as by the enterprise systems of Arcapita. The adoption of a passive optical fibre infrastructure was ideally suited for the challenges of the Arcapita Building. The functional specifications of the data centre were developed by 2024Sight and implementation of all aspects of the data centre has been supervised…

A Digital School

Case Studies
Occupied in 2008 in Bahrain this is a show-case digital school with fibre optic infrastructure & wireless networks throughout the campus. 2024Sight staff developed an ICT Master Plan including the implementation of computerised classrooms and wireless, thin client laptop computers. The technological infrastructure allows the seamless integration of high-speed internet, intranet, videoconferencing and provides state-of-the-art home/school communication anywhere on campus.
